Investment Analyst, European Reliance Asset Management
Dr. Vassilis Efthymiou, CFA is an Investment Analyst of fixed income securities under the portfolio management division of European Reliance Asset Management, Greece. In his current role, he conducts in-depth financial analysis on European corporate borrowers selected from the investment grade and highyield bond asset classes, with particular specialization in the Banking, Utilities, Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) industries.
He has been granted the globally recognized professional qualifications of Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst® (CAIA®), while he is a dedicated member of CFA Institute abstractors’ team for its CFA Digest publication.
Vassilis has been an active mentor at both young entrepreneurship and undergraduate study level. In the past, he assisted a young visionary entrepreneur explore the right business model for his novel EduTech idea, which enabled him win the 1st prize in the “Start-up Live Athens” competition. Moreover,Vassilis has a mentoring role in CFA Institute Research Challenge, a global university competition, whereby student teams perform the financial analysis of a listed corporation, which showcases in the form of a “roadshow” type presentation in front of an expert judge panel.
His professional experience also comprises work at the European Investment Fund (EIF, EIB Group), where he participated in the Business Development team coordinating the implementation of JEREMIE fund of funds in Greece and Cyprus for the period 2011-2013. His role involved research and analysis of qualitative and quantitative information in the course of due diligence carried out to evaluate prospective counter parties, preparation of proposals, assisting in the negotiation of debt and equity transactions, and monitoring of SME investment portfolios.
Before EIF,having started in 2007,Vassilis successfully pursued a full-time Ph.D. in Finance at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), Greece, following a 3 year associate tenure at PwC, Greece. In 2003, he completed AUEB’s MSc in Applied Economics & Finance with distinction, after graduating from the Accounting & Finance department of the London School of Economics (LSE), UK.
Vassilis has lectured corporate executives in the context of AUEB’s part-time MSc in Finance, while he has been teaching corporate finance to CFA candidates at the Hellenic Banks Institute since 2008. Previously, he served as Vice-President of the Hellenic CFA Society, while during his doctoral studies, he was honored with a Valedictorian Scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation.
