LIGHTHOUSE introduces an innovative, cost-effective technological solution, a concentrated thermal solar collector, allowing the power of big solar power plants to be brought at the local distributed level, in a financially feasible way. It allows collection of solar energy at high temperatures, with excellent and reliable performance and maximum efficiency, in order to be used in a number of different applications (building heating/cooling, process heat, desalination, electricity , etc).
Our way of living demands enormous amounts of energy. Heating accounts for 49% of Europe’s energy demand. Solar power is an abundant source of energy, that it is not exploited as much as it could. At the local distributed level (building and industrial), utilization of solar energy is very low, due to that both the buildings and the industrial applications need thermal energy at high temperatures, that cannot be achieved by the current solar systems in a financially feasible way.
Fresnel lenses, solartracking and high efficiency concentrated solar energy absorbers, will ensure the efficient collection of solar energy in the form of high quality thermal energy, to be used in high temperature applications, but also to be transformed to electricity. This will definitely contribute to a much greater substitution of the fossil fuels used to cover energy needs at a local distributed level (buildings, factories), reducing both the costs and the need for expensive power grids.
