Dr. Michael Tzannes has over 30 years of experience in the technology industry as an executive, entrepreneur and innovator.
From 1990 to 2012, Dr. Tzannes led Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE) as Executive Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technical Officer. After a successful IPO in 1996, Dr Tzannes focused the company on technology development and licensing in digital subscriber line (DSL) communications. Aware is widely recognized for its technical excellence, innovative product development and high-quality silicon intellectual property offerings.
Since 2012, Dr. Tzannes has been active in the start-up community in Patras, Greece as an angel investor and Board member. He is Chairman and founder of Accusonus, Inc., provider of audio repair and music creation software and also serves on the Board of Directors at start-ups Irida Labs and Yodiwo.
In 2012, he founded consulting firm Tzannes Patent Management focused on thought leadership and strategic development, assessment and monetization of high-quality intellectual property assets.
Dr. Tzannes is an inventor on over 75 US and foreign patents addressing core technologies in communications and signal processing. He is also founder of Applied Transform developing core technology for wireless and internet of things applications.
Dr. Tzannes serves on the Advisory Board for the Electrical Engineering department at Tufts University. He is also a member of classic rock cover band French Lick that performs at charity events throughout the Boston area. He has a Diploma from the University of Patras, Greece where he was valedictorian, a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from Tufts University, all in Electrical Engineering.
