Environmental & Climate Change Manager, Viohalco S.A.
Panagiotis is currently the Environmental and Climate Change Manager for the Viohalco Group of Companies, the holding company of the largest metallurgical Group of Companies in Greece. The Viohalco Group includes over 80 different companies, with production facilities in Greece, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Romania and FYROM. He joined Viohalco in 2004 and his responsibilities include the development of the environmental management programs of all production facilities, development of environmental policy and strategy of the Group companies, environmental law and climate change issues, development of waste management programs and environmental investments in pollution control, wastewater treatment and related infrastructure.Panagiotis has extensive experience in waste management issues as well as waste-related business development projects.
Before VIOHALCO, he worked in several positions in environmental management in the private sector since 1994, both in the USA and Greece. These include the position of sector manager of environmental operations for the Athens Olympic Games Organizing Committee, Commercial Development Manager for the OndeoDegremont subsidiary France Assainissement working in water treatment related projects, and as an environmental engineer for the US environmental consultancy Camp Dresser & Mckee, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
Panagiotis is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Federation of Recycling and Energy Recovery Industries (SEPAN) and is also a member of the Greek National Water Council representing the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV). He also serves as an independent member of the Board of Directors of US-listed shipping company Aries (later named Newlead Holdings) since its IPO in 2005 in NASDAQ.
Panagiotis holds a Μaster of Engineering in Environmental and Water Quality Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA, a Βachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA, and an Executive Diploma in Management Studies from ALBA University, Athens Greece.
