Professional experience

Dr. Ioannis Papadopoulos is the Managing Director of “Squares on Blue”, a company providing strategic consulting, project management, and data analysis services to organisations, leveraging the most advanced Big Data and Analytics solutions.

Ioannis holds a PhD in Particle Physics from the University of Athens, Greece, and an MBA from Heriot-Watt University, UK.

He started his career, spending 12 years at CERN, Geneva, as a research physicist at first, then as a software engineer and project manager leading international teams at CERN and at collaborating institutions. He was responsible for the design, simulation, and development of new apparatuses for physics experiments, software frameworks for data analysis and data handling in distributed computing environments. His contributions helped researchers extract knowledge from vast and diverse amounts of information generated by the experiments.

Prior to founding “Squares on Blue”, Ioannis worked for 5 years at Apple’s European headquarters in London, where he lead the business development of the Science and Research markets in Europe, Middle East, India, and Africa. He was managing an annual marketing budget of $300k for a total revenue of $200M and a YoY growth rate of 15%.

With the arrival of the mobile platform, and especially the iPad, he led the development of the digital content ecosystem that was required to make these devices relevant to the Education markets in Southern Europe, Middle East and India. He collaborated with educational publishers, application developers, schools, universities in EU, and ministries in order to bring their content on Apple’s iTunes U.

In mid 2013 Ioannis decided to follow closely the developments to the Big Data & Analytics industry and decided to set up “Squares on Blue” in France, with the mission to to help enterprises and public institutions turn information into knowledge by exploiting the recent developments in the relevant data-handling technologies and scientific approaches in data analysis.

Ioannis is an angel investor in a couple of Greek technology companies.

He speaks English, Greek, French, German, C, C++, Python, R, and several other languages.
